We can make a difference in families’ lives

We can make a difference in families’ lives

We want to see a just, fair and sustainable world, in which everybody enjoys the right to a life of dignity, and freedom from poverty and oppression. HANET’s programs aims to contribute to household economic prosperity, food diversification and social protection. The strategic interventions areas will revolve around access to social safety nets, enhancing production and facilitating access to markets.

This is why HANET organization works to restore hope by providing children and their communities with food, clean water, mental health support, and education, disease prevention and child protection activities.

A livelihood comprises capabilities, assets and activities required for a means of living, and are regarded as sustainable when it can cope with and/or recover from stresses and shocks. Sustainable food security and livelihoods strategies help people to meet their immediate and future needs; enhance their dignity and voice; empower them economically, politically and socially; and develop the localities which they belong to and live in. When people are able to produce, sell, earn, and invest in the future they can shape, influence, contribute to and benefit from civil society and good government as well as be the drivers of change leading to poverty reduction.

We stand with communities right from disaster through to recovery and building back. We do it by working with local people, partners, governments and the UN, with funding from a whole range of international and private donors. Some of our Strategic Interventions are

  1. Facilitate access to food and other basic needs to chronically vulnerable groups through cash transfers, food vouchers, relief food and cash for work
  2. Organizing communities and other relevant stakeholders towards establishing/ reinvigorating social support systems
  3. Facilitate access to social protection measures and safety nets for chronically vulnerable people to prevent people them from slipping into chronic poverty / vulnerability during periods of ‘shock’.

Food security and livelihood is a key area of focus for HANET as it aims to improve the livelihood situation of the vulnerable communities. The organization uses multiple approaches like economic empowerment, cash for work, skills development as well as value chain support for agricultural and livestock sub-sectors that secure sustainable livelihoods.

HANET implements a wide range of food security and livelihood support projects such as cash for work to prevent loss of assets, emergency food voucher, capacity development in agricultural sector through good agricultural practices, providing agricultural inputs like seeds and farm tools and improving the livestock sector value chain as strategies to promote, protect and strengthen vulnerable communities’ abilities to recover and bounce back from shocks and stresses as well as become resilient. In addition, the organization supports capital assets and economic recovery initiatives like business skills training, provision of business grants and start-up kits, and literacy training support to women and girls owned VSLAs groups.

WASDA targets the most vulnerable community members especially women, girls, PWDs, IDPs, returnees, minority groups among others. We work with the communities, respective government ministries to design and implement sustainable solutions that improve the resilience of the communities.
